The King's Speech & Our Time
Few films in history have captured the fear, shame, and social stigma associated with stuttering as honestly and poignantly as The King's Speech - a historical drama written by David Seidler, a person who stutters, starring Colin Firth as George VI, the King of England During World War II and a person who stuttered. This highly anticipated film is stirring enormous interest among the film and stuttering communities, already winning critical praise, awards, and consideration as a serious contender for multiple Academy Awards.
In The King's Speech, an actor (Geoffrey Rush's character, Lionel Logue) uses arts training to instill confidence in a man whose stuttering almost stood in the way of his destiny to lead England during a turbulent time of war. The film, like Our Time, reinforces the importance of building confidence and addressing the emotional implications of stuttering. The King's Speech will ignite an international discussion and promote widespread awareness about stuttering, which is part of Our Time's mission.

"Listen to me ... I have a voice!" - Colin Firth as King George VI
